This blog started on a whim after buying an out-of-character pair of sassy green boots (my incredible second-hand find)! And it dawned on me: it’s the perfect time to have my mid-life crisis! I am a Mom to 2 boys. I was 16 when Big Guy was born, and Little Guy was born 16 years after that…Yes, I got to tackle diapers and driving lessons at the same time. I now have half an “empty nest”. I “retired” for a few years to be a full-time homemaker and went back to work as the gatekeeper in a cubicle of purgatory (aka church office administrator). I’m retired again and loving it!
When I turned 40, I got a tattoo and ran in Mud Hero – it was mud-licious!) and I’m trying to get in shape (well, a shape other than round)…For 41, I shot my way through the Capture Your 365 challenge with my new camera, and at 42, I started learning Italian. 43 & 44 are kind of a blur…I know there were some cooking disasters and I became a gamer… And 45 started with a trip to the gun range and axe throwing! I’m racing toward the next decade and still pursuing adventure. I’m on Instagram: sassygreenboots.
Every day I’m learning to appreciate “the Opera of the Every Day”! I’ve wasted far too much of the first half of my life crying, so I am determined to laugh more (even if it means by myself or laughing at myself – I will never cease to be amused). I’m 40-something and I am choosing to embrace it!!! Who’s with me?

Jenn – you are and have always been a yummy mummy! And I can remember playing barbies with you, so you can’t be that old, because I’m not old! :p
If you are interested, I have taken up hot yoga, to try and get into better shape, and to learn how to relax (if that is possible!), you could come and do a class with me sometime! It’s fun!
Looking forward to reading more posts!
That sounds daunting…and fantastic! 🙂
Bravo for starting a blog. An online diary of your Happy New Year. I look forward to your upcoming posts.
I’m really excited…and scared…and excited…and, well, you get the picture! 🙂
I am now over 40 and closer to 50 now. I am not a mummy but can certainly relate to looking better and feeling better. I just started a 12 day cleanse and hope it makes me feel closer to 40 by the end of it.
Glad you started your blog Jen…I will follow you…even if I’m not a follower in life. I will still be apart of your new things in your new green boots.
Hi! Glad to have you along on my adventure! I plan to start posting…tomorrow! Eek!
Welcome, hope you enjoy blogging as much as I do 🙂
Thank you. I am enjoying it. I experience a moment of bliss every time I click that “Publish” button! 🙂
Haha – I totally feel the same! Thank you for following me, hope you enjoy my posts as much as I have yours 🙂
40 is the new 30. Don’t worry.
Thanks! lol I’m not too worried – after all, it’s going to happen to all of us – might as well have fun! 🙂

I’m only 33, but I’m ready to embrace 40! In fact… I’m looking forward to 60, so far.
I’ve found the older I get, the more fun I’m having, and the less I worry about what others are thinking! It’s great!
I’m with you, and also of a certain age. The 40s are awesome because you still look OK, but give much less of a rat’s rump about what people think. I believe your green boots are trying to tell you something!
Thanks for the follow! Having just turned 60, hear me when I say – it ain’t over until it’s over.
I’ve just nominated you for The Very Inspiring Blogger Award! Thanks for inspiring me!

Aww. I’m not too far behind you. My son is 12 years old. Looking forward to your future posts!
Time flies when you’re having fun. Keep having fun! 🙂
I nominated you for the Liebster award. No pressure, but grab it if you’d like it:)
Thank you very much!!!!!!!
life is beautiful despite its challenges. Its great that you are grabbing it and experimenting.
Not there yet, but on my way… Turn 40 in a few weeks. I also have two kids and are right now in some stormy period of confusion and thinking. What’s next, where shall I go now and so on. But I starting to realize there’s not much to lose, just go ahead and do the stuff that feels right! Great to “meet” you:)
Nice to “meet” you too. You have some beautiful shots on your site, as well as you 365 blog. I’ve been trying to do a 365 challenge this year and it’s tough!
I think you’ll enjoy 40 – I have so far! It’s good to take time for introspection as well as plan some things “for fun” while you’re still able! Happy Birthday a little early! 🙂
Thank you very much:) The 365 thing went well last year, this year I gave up… About life and age: I am on my way up and there are some hope for the future;) There will still be good times and bad times but maybe I will be more and more confident in myself with the years passing.
Jenn, thanks for taking a look at Modes of Flight.
By the way, have a ball!
Hi Jenn!
I was nominated for the “Liebster Award”. This award is meant to welcome (relative small) bloggers to the world of Blogging and I wanted to pass this honor on to you.
If you accept the award, please “pass it forward” and nominate 3 to 11 other people for this award.
There are a few rules if you accept this award which you can find them here: http://thegirlwhoclicked.com/2014/12/26/the-liebster-award/
Basically the rules are: Answer the 11 questions I have written for you in my blog, state 11 random facts about yourself and nominate 3 to 11 other people for an award.
Feel free to ignore this award if you are not into this sort of thing. The true purpose is to show my appreciation for sharing your world and how much I enjoy your blog! 🙂
Aw…thank you! I will accept but may be a few weeks before I get there. Just did the flying trip to my in-laws (6 hour car ride round-trip) and getting ready for my Grandma’s funeral. Right now, I’m heading to your blog to enjoy more of your lovely photos!!
You are very deserving of the award! 🙂
Great site love I your optimistic views. I will follow your journey.
Thank you! Perhaps some day I’ll be free to lead a more nomadic lifestyle. Looking forward to reading about your adventures! 🙂
Why thank you Jennsmidlifecrisis.
You’re a pretty cool Lady!
I’m really not, but thank you! 🙂
Glad to have added you to my list of followed blogs. I love the diversity that blogging brings.
First off, you are far to young to be having a mid-life crisis and always remember, your nest is half full! 😉
