Spring has sprung, and I have no longer lost my will to live…outside of the confines of my warm bed. Another inevitable year has passed, so I decided it was time to kick-start my midlife crisis again, before I’m starting my golden years.

When I start my golden years, however, I don’t intend to be like the “lady” I met today on my commute home from work. She was in a pretty ordinary blue sedan, and crawling along at 40 km/hr in a 70 km/hr.  I waved a couple times, as if shooshing a fly, and then I changed lanes to pass her. No biggie! As I passed her, I glanced over to see who was driving. Was the driver new? 112 years old? That’s when this well-healed, mature woman with white hair and Jackie O sunglasses, gave me the finger. I didn’t tailgate or peep the horn. I didn’t gesture in any rude manner, or swerve around her like a crazy person. I may become a sassy old broad who intentionally crosses at a crosswalk slowly out of spite, but that was just rude!

So back to my midlife crisis… Every stereotypical cartoon old lady either has silver hair or blue hair. So naturally, I had to choose one or the other. Flip a coin (and consult my hair stylist)!

My stylist’s last name is Golden, so I can now say, I’ve received “The Golden Touch”!  Time to start planning some adventures for this year! Any suggestions?

Happy Wednesday!

Would you like an adventure now, or shall we have our tea first? – Alice in Wonderland

Mom
Aunt (800x540)

This summer, while Little Guy and my Papa enjoyed Guy Time at McDonald’s, I enjoyed a Ladies’ Day Out with my Mom and my Aunt M.

Tea Room 2

We went to a tea room in a neighbouring village to enjoy a delicious lunch and the nostalgic amenities – lace, linen tablecloths, fine china, and silver. I enjoyed my warm croissant with ham and brie, and mixed green salad with homemade raspberry vinaigrette. Each of us received our own teapot, and for dessert, we shared a scone with fresh strawberries and English cream.

After lunch, we browsed in the Antique Emporium next door, with an eclectic selection of antiques, collectibles, and curiosities.

And then we went to another antique shop, where I fell in love with a number of items, including a card catalogue still containing handwritten ledgers from the 1940’s, heavy cast iron floor grates (which reminded me of my Grandmother’s farm house), and tea cups galore. Instead I purchased a modestly priced Higgins & Burke wire tea rack, which holds 9 cannisters of Tetley tea, freeing up more space in my cupboard for other important things like…well, more tea!

By the time we finished shopping, it was time for afternoon tea, but since we were still full from dessert lunch, we headed home to put the kettle on (and our feet up)!

Speaking of kettles, it must be time to put mine on again… Happy Monday.

I like to party, and by party, I mean sit home and drink tea. – Anonymous

Someday, Princess…

Yup! That’s it, Princess. Take your time. Walk as slowly as possible. I see you stealing glances at me, laughing with your friend because you’re making me wait in my car at this intersection. I now you think you’re terribly clever, and funny, and pretty. You think you’re annoying me, that this smile plastered on my face is forced. But it’s not…not really…

You see, Princess, someday you are going to be a greying, stressed out middle-aged mom, sitting at this same intersection (or one just like it). Your daughter will be wailing overdramatically in the backseat over some ridiculous slight by her BFF that has now launched into such mountainous proportions that her “life is ruined”. You are late picking up your son from karate lessons, which means he’ll be late for swimming. Nothing is thawed for dinner and your mother-in-law’s voice is chiding you in the back of your head, (along with the headache that’s been slowly growing all day long), for not feeding her grandchildren meals from scratch every night. Hubby will be late again tonight and you have a pile of paperwork to do after the kids are in bed. Don’t even think about the mound of laundry. And you’ve just realized you forgot to pick up Bristol board for your surly teen’s school project, which is due tomorrow. The waistline of your pants is digging in and you’re starting to feel a hot flash coming on. You just want to get home, put on your pajamas, and veg in front of the t.v. for a few hours before bed! But you can’t because some little old lady is crossing the intersection as slowly as possible. She keeps stealing glances at you and smirking at her friends.

That will be me!

It is this very line of vengeful thought that keeps me from impatiently scowling and hurling insults at you while I rev my engine.

Yup! That’s it Princess, take your time. Happy Weekend!
