It’s been kind of an odd week. One day it was sultry and the next it was cold. One day it was raining with blue skies and sunshine, while the next it was raining sideways and the skies were black. On the way home from work one afternoon, I saw police lights in the lane ahead, blocking traffic, so I thought I’d go around the block to avoid them. Instead, my shortcut took me into the middle of a police operation and I was surrounded… And that was just the beginning of my week…But it’s Friday…and I’m glad it’s Friday. And I hope you’re glad it’s Friday too!

Here’s my next installment for the Capture Your 365 Project. The squirrel photo was taken by my Dad (and is used with his permission). Don’t forget to click on a photo to see the gallery and read the quotes! Happy Weekend!

Holding it: “Not much goes on in the mind of a squirrel. Huge portions of what is loosely termed "the squirrel brain" are given over to one thought: food.” - Kate DiCamillo, Flora and Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures

After a three hour nap Sunday afternoon (oops) and full nights’ sleep since, I would expect to be full of energy. Instead, I’d be quite happy to crawl under the covers for a few more winks! But I’m going to work instead!

Here’s the next installment of the Capture Your 365 project. I’m finding the “challenges” getting harder to meet as the months go on…but I’m determined to persevere. Just click on the photos to read the quotes.  Have a great (and restful) day!

Thankfully, they weren’t there for me. I pulled up to the red mailbox in the church parking lot, but I didn’t see them until I looked up when I stepped out of the car. There was a neat row of police vehicles parked along the back of the lot: two marked cruisers, two unmarked cruisers, a special unit van, and an armoured vehicle…with a full team inside… I thought about taking a picture, but I didn’t want to give the men in bullet-proof vests to a reason to notice me…(I think they were getting ready to go somewhere else…)

I’ve almost completed 5 months of the Capture Your 365 project! Here’s the next installment, and none of these things will arrest me…Click on the photos to read the quotes, and have a Happy Weekend!

Happy Victoria Day! It’s a holiday in remembrance of Queen Victoria’s birthday. It also meant I joined the mass exodus to escape the city for the weekend. We watched movies, ate sweets, and played board games…Mom and I also engaged in hours of conversation over pots of tea! I didn’t have any time to write, but I did take some time to snap some pictures…before heading home!

Some special ladies received a reprieve this past Wednesday when another last minute speaker filled in for me, at the last minute…which means I really have to stop procrastinating or more to the point, I really have to stop being distracted by everything under the sun, and prepare to speak this week. I warned the ladies that I was speaking next, so if they show up on Wednesday…it will be their own misfortune!

Here’s the next installment of my Capture Your 365 Project – I have work to do! Happy Weekend!

For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” –Audrey Hepburn

What I'm Reading: A collection of memories written for me by my Grandmother

What I’m Reading

“My grandmothers are full of memories/ Smelling of soap and onions and wet clay/ With veins rolling roughly over quick hands/ They have many clean words to say,/ My grandmothers were strong. “ –Margaret Walker

Yesterday, it was my birthday. Another year wiser, or so I’m told. I doubt that very much! I’m also another year closer to death.  All day the rain drummed grimly on the window behind me like annoyed fingers on a desktop. But there was also cake – chocolate cheesecake with brownies on top! And surprise cupcakes from a friend – chocolate with pink buttercream icing and raspberry jam. And the delicious supper I made, with fresh linguine tossed with mild Italian sausage, sauteed peppers, and red onions in a four cheese tomato sauce, and topped with warm goat cheese! All good things worth living longer to fully appreciate! There were gifts too – a fabulous backpack for my camera (so I have no excuse not to go places) and a new cushy robe to put on after my treks into the outdoors with my camera (so I have no excuses not to go places)!

But alas! It supposed to rain all week…so I guess I’ll just have to enjoy hot showers, the cushy robe, and that cheesecake for now! And I’ll share my photos for the Capture Your 365 Project for this week!

Peaceful

Peaceful

“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.” – John Steinbeck, Travels with Charley: In Search of America

Thoughtful

Thoughtful

“Before marriage, a man declares that he would lay down his life to serve you; after marriage, he won’t even lay down his newspaper to talk to you.”- Helen Rowland

April Showers

April Showers

“Love like rain, can nourish from above, drenching couples with a soaking joy. But sometimes under the angry heat of life, love dries on the surface and must nourish from below, tending to its roots keeping itself alive.”
― Paulo Coelho, By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept

It’s kind of sad when you start to have a crisis about your mid-life crisis…Lately I feel like I have just enough energy to get through the day but not much more than that. My level of creativity is sagging (just like the rest of me)…

I started a post of semiotics, the art and science of making connections between the ordinary and making them extraordinary…the problem was, I suddenly couldn’t make connections. Then I read an article about the epidemic of sleeplessness…the only result was that I didn’t sleep a wink!

Maybe I have brain rot! Too much precipitation + too many radical temperature changes = brain rot! The April prompts are really a stretch, and I’m worried that my brain may just implode. On that note, here’s some of the first week of April – no foolin’!

Focused: “Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.” -Greg Anderson

Framed: “Mix a little foolishness with your serious plans. It is lovely to be silly at the right moment.” -Horace

Where You Work: This is not my desk...but it is partly my 'handiwork'

Look up: “Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the beginning think what may be the end.” - Edward Whymper, Scrambles Amongst the Alps

Look up (hint: Big Guy is in that tree): “Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste; look well to each step; and from the beginning think what may be the end.” – Edward Whymper, Scrambles Amongst the Alps

In the Window: “Frost grows on the window glass, forming whorl patterns of lovely translucent geometry. Breathe on the glass, and you give frost more ammunition. Now it can build castles and cities and whole ice continents with your breath’s vapor. In a few blinks you can almost see the winter fairies moving in…But first, you hear the crackle of their wings.” - Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration

If I don’t hurry up and post, I will be sharing March’s photos on April Fool’s Day! I found March’s photo challenge prompts extremely challenging – either I didn’t know how to approach it or it didn’t turn out the way I imagined. Or worse – I couldn’t get to my camera! And with a “winter” that threatened to never end”…well, the motivation to get out and take photos just wasn’t there!
