Some clichés beg to be played out. Last night after worship team practice, Corey Hart’s “I Wear My Sunglasses at Night” came on the radio, and since I was still keyed up, I cranked it and slapped on my own sunglasses! Guess how Hubby & I chose “our song”, Lady in Red?

Here’s the next installment for the Capture Your 365 project. It’s not that I’m a fantastic photographer, but rather that I am a stubborn person and I want to see this through to the end. Click on the photos to see the quotes. Happy Wednesday!

We’re halfway through September and I’m running behind on my photo challenge – 3.5 months to go until the end! I’m still trying to get organized. The Ladies program I help run started yesterday. And today, I’m getting ready to do battle at the school. I’ve said it once and I’m saying it again…Wake me up when September ends! Click on the photos to see the challenge prompt and the quotes.

I was happy yesterday morning but I can’t really say why. Maybe it was because I smiled and waved cheerfully at the jerk (who was tailgating me) when he passed me? It really made him mad when I smiled and waved and that made me happy. I was humming as I opened my email…and then I got suckerpunched in the first email I read…Happy Feeling Gone.

Words have the power to do that sometimes…

This turned into a week of posts with mostly photos and few words. I needed a break from words, to take some time to get organized for the Fall, and to dabble with some ideas without the pressure to produce. Part of ushering in Fall requires saying “farewell” to Summer, which is a hard thing to do. Nevertheless, here’s the finale of August’s Capture Your 365 Project challenges.

Happy Weekend!

Where I Stand: “Take a music bath once or twice a week for a few seasons, and you will find that it is to the soul what the water bath is to the body.” – Oliver Wendell Holmes
Tradition: Some moments are like cotton candy. They’re wonderful and sweet, but you know they just won’t last. – Susan Gale

Backpack: “Education is that whole system of human training within and without the school house walls, which molds and develops men.” – E. B. Du Bois
Serene: The love of learning, the sequestered nooks, and all the sweet serenity of books.” -Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Two of a Kind: “Truths and roses have thorns about them.” -Henry David Thoreau

Here we are…into September already. And while the weather remains hot & humid, there is a storm gathering across the province…for tomorrow…is the first day of school! The weather man is predicting heavy rains and possible thunderstorms, but the ferociousness of any storm won’t begin to compare to the torrential turmoil most parents and kids are going to experience. Wake me up when September ends! Click on the photos to read the quotes.

I cut my hair last week…I’m not ready to talk about it…

I was also on vacation last week – the last one of the Summer. I packed cotton skirts and t-shirts because it was supposed to be sunny and hot…and then the rains rolled in. It was freezing! I survived watching Little Guy swim one night by wrapping in a blanket and clutching a cup of hot tea. I even borrowed a pair of flannel pjs from my Mom…I’m not ready to talk about it.

Here’s the next installment in my Capture Your 365 project…better late than never. Feel free to click on the photos to see the prompt and the quotes.

Happy Tuesday!

“The first week of August hangs at the very top of summer, the top of the live-long year, like the highest seat of a Ferris wheel when it pauses in its turning. The weeks that come before are only a climb from balmy spring, and those that follow a drop to the chill of autumn, but the first week of August is motionless, and hot. It is curiously silent, too, with blank white dawns and glaring noons, and sunsets smeared with too much color.” ~Natalie Babbitt, Tuck Everlasting

It’s the perfect time to finish off July’s Capture Your 365 challenges. Please click any photo to see the quotes I married to each one. Happy Tuesday!

Walter Elliot said “Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.” Therefore, I am still racing, week by week, toward completing my goal of finishing the Capture Your 365 Project…and this week I’m also racing to get everything in order so I can go on vacation next week. I can’t wait!

I planned and went on a pilgrimage after work yesterday in an attempt to snap prime pictures for my July Capture Your 365 Project!

The July 4th prompt was “All American” and my first thought was “as American as apple pie”. So I stopped at Swiss Chalet on the way home from work. I only wanted one portion, not a whole pie – a whole pie would be packed away and I’d get poochy. I envisioned a single slice of picturesque pie with pristine, golden flaky crust, oozing apple and cinnamon. I would place it on a white plate with a thick slab of sharp cheddar on the side. But when I pulled my petite $5 piece from the paper bag, it looked like…like puke with caramel sauce. But my stubbornness kicked in, I persevered, and I pieced it together enough to get this…

Apple Pie

Little Guy polished it off for me!

My next stop was the grocery store for a luscious lemon to complete the July 1st prompt, “Refreshing”. I envisioned a tall, sweating glass of iced tea with a lemon wedge, sitting in the sunshine. I even thought far enough ahead to make ice cubes. After I found a lovely lemon, I went on a pilgrimage for a bag of Bits & Bites. As I wandered through the store, I repeated the slogan “Kibbles & Bits, kibbles & bits, I’m going to get me some kibbles & bits…” (just like the dog in the commercial). As I wandered without success, accosting 4 different employees who insisted I could find them in aisle 11, the voice in my head got louder and angrier. After my fifth tour of Aisle 11, I convinced an employee to “show me where in Aisle 11” I could find my nibbles. He couldn’t…but he accidentally found 2 bags shoved into a cracker display at the end of aisle 7. . A propitious find! (Bonus – the sun came out after dinner!)

Iced Tea with lemon wedge

Homemade…but it looked better than it tasted

Cheers to a promising weekend!

I haven’t been writing as much lately. It’s not that my creativity is stifled or that I have no ideas. My brain never seems to turn off and I am constantly snapping mental photographs and observing the interactions all around me. I write in my mind.

But lately I haven’t had the heart to commit most of my thoughts to paper. I know too many people who are hurting right now, and I hurt alongside them. Like my brain, I can’t simply “turn it off”. Not only that, but I find my own losses rising to the surface, and I recognize that sometimes it is better to feel than to simply set it aside until a better time comes along. There is never a “better time”.

I had hoped to finish June’s 365 challenge…in June! However, better late than never? You can click on the photos to see the quotes. Happy Weekend!
