Control, In 6 Words

6 words, humour, in 6 words

My friend, Eli, CoachDaddy, did it again last week. He called  on “bloggers, friends, strangers, and a few strange blogger friends ” to answer a simple question in 6 words…then he compiled  a shockingly varied and apt list of what we say we control, in 6 words. I participated in it too…and then this happened!

Going Sane

Here’s the link – check it out: What We Control in 6 Words. Feel free to add your own 6 words – CoachDaddy would love it.

As for me, I woke up this morning dreading the drive to work in yet another snowstorm with double-digit temperatures dipping  into the -C (with wind chill). And as I shuffled to the car, with the stink of wet wool in my nose and my eyes glued to the ground (lest I wipe out on a patch of ice), a little voice started to giggle from somewhere deep inside.  Then I climbed into my car of an in-determinant colour (from all the salt and dirt), remembered that regardless of which major route I take, both are just starting the construction slated for the next 2 years…and the giggle grew until it burst through my lips in my outdoor voice. I startled Little Guy. Finally, I popped in a cd, cranked up the theme song to “Miami Vice”, grinned and stated “Tubbs, let’s get you to school”.

Yup! I’m in complete control again!

Field Trips – In 6 Words

6 words, in 6 words

Fields trips were great when you were a kid – no school, no.homework.

I went on a few field trip today – to the grocery store and then the dentist (Lucky me – I get to do that again next Monday!).  It was also photo day at swimming lessons; I got to sit in a moist environment for 45 minutes in flip-flops and a sweater. And I haven’t painted my toenails in 3 months…

October was National Field Trip month and to honour it, my friend, Coach Daddy compiled a list 6 word sentences from friends, bloggers, and friends of bloggers to answer the question: Where would you take the CoachDaddy Crew on a field trip?

Surprisingly, not all of them involved food…including mine at #42 (which we know is the “Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything”.

Trust me – it’s worth checking out!!

Self-Improvement…in 6 Words!

Sometimes I want to “select all” and tap delete…and I’m not talking about computers! September was “self-improvement month”  – did you miss it too?

I spent part of September working on home improvement. I bought a new shower curtain,  installed a new duvet, asked Hubby nicely to hang a new picture, and  painted the trim around my front door (that only took 5.5 hours)!

But self-improvement?

Where to begin? By eating more broccoli? Going to bed earlier? Or worse, with more of the the evil “E” word (“exercise”)?

Me-blog

Look what happened when I went mountain bikiing!

Where would you begin? And what if I told you to pick just one goal and then phrase it using only 6 words.

That’s what CoachDaddy did over on his blog, believing, just as Ernest Hemingway, that an entire story can be told in 6 words. CoachDaddy asked a group to tell him our story of how we’d improve ourselves…in 6 words! Yours truly had a hard time picking just one! I’m #64 – Let’s see if I can do it for the entire month of October!

Thanks Eli, for another fantastic cooperative post! Click here to pop over to the full post and join the conversation!!

Happy Weekend!!

What would you say?

6 words, humour

If you had the opportunity to say something, anything, to someone, past, present or future, what would it be? Could you do it in 6 words?

Coach Daddy gathered together family, friends, and fellow bloggers, and asked them to speak up! Yours truly was one of the strange bloggers asked to participate in this challenge. I struggled because what I would like to say to a few individuals in my past would require a whole lot more than 6 words (and potentially a lot of censoring). CoachDaddy truly put together a great collection of thought-provoking and often humorous 6-word stories worth reading, twice.

I’ve popped over the border for a mini break. Why don’t you pop over and check it out & maybe add your own 6-word story too? Sometimes a mini break is just what you need!

Happy Weekend!

I may have to stop at the grocery store on my way home from work…to pick up some cheese to go with my whine…I can’t go into details, but in a nutshell…

a)            Last night, it snowed…again…

b             Someone kind of hurt my feelings…

c)            And I’m a little bummed…

Maybe I need to plan a holiday…so I’m going to head over to my friend, coachdaddy, to check out my options…Earlier this week, Coachdaddy posted a collection of holiday ideas from fellow bloggers to “Make Your Own Holiday in 6 Words”. Check out the 40+ options (including mine, which Little Guy and I already tested first – you’re welcome) and add your own!! While there are fewer girly hormones over there…there might be cheese…

Happy Weekend!

A Parent’s Christmas, in 6 Words

Despite being visited by “Vincent the Christmas Virus” this holiday season (Vincent is really making the rounds), Coach Daddy still put together a brilliant collection from writers, and bloggers, and parents all over, who shared heart-warming and often all-too-relatable descriptions of Christmas with kids…in 6 words. I’m honoured to have made that list! So grab a mug of hot chocolate, (with or without an extra snort of “Christmas cheer”) and settle in for a good gaffaw! Merry Christmas!

My good friend, Coach Daddy, is a very cool guy. In his own words, he’s into “fatherhood, futbol and food”. Blessed with 3 inquisitive, super-cool girls of his own, he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to parenthood, but rather than philosophizing on his own, he asked 66 other parents to “chime in” about a typical day in the life of a parent…in 6 words! It may sound like a simple challenge until you sit down to pen to paper (or in my case, fingers to keyboard)! Try it – I dare you! And then grab a tissue and prepare to read through the list he compiled – I guarantee you’ll laugh out loud! (By the way, I’m #26) Thanks Coach Daddy! And while you’re there, check out the rest of his blog at coachdaddy.wordpress.com!

Summer Vacation with Kids, in 6 Words

I’m sharing a post today (psst…I’m in it) from one of my favourite bloggers, CoachDaddy! He believes Daddy-ing and Coaching come from the same place! He is a husband, and father to 3 girls who keep him on his toes will all kinds of questions. Feel free to join the fun by adding  your own 6 words describing Summer Vacation with Kids!!  Here’s the link or just keep reading…Summer Vacation with Kids, in 6 Words.

***

I looked up, and it was over.

No, not the Colorado Rockies’ postseason chances, although those are gone now, too. I mean, the summer. Technically, we have a few more weeks of it, but the focus has shifted from “when can we go to the pool?” to “which one is the carpool lane at school again?”

In fact, as I drove to work recently wearing shorts, I heard a report from my favorite WFAE reporter, Lisa Miller, that some kids were already back at school. Poor kids. Or, happy parents. Whatever. (Actually, check out the story … it’s really good).

But without the added drama of baseball playoff dreams and with soccer practice just underway, it’s time to big adieu to summer with another edition of 6 Words.

This project, inspired by Hemingway’s assertion that any story can be told in a six-word sentence, calls upon a trove of parents from the blog world and beyond to sum up an aspect of parenthood in a mere six words.

The prompt this time: Sum up summer vacation with kids in six words.

Understandably, there’s angst, adoration, admonition and one really bad word among the sentences below. I hope you’ll enjoy the collection of perspectives, and visit some of the blog links.
