The day was extremely overcast and we debated about whether to risk it or not… but there are certain characteristics of a country fair that you just don’t want to miss. There’s…

The sights: Brightly coloured food kiosk and flashing lights, couples of families of all ages, stages and sizes, and lonely red balloons disappearing into the sky…

The smells: let’s be honest – it’s the Country Fair Fare (for photos from last year, click here)– sweet roasted corn, french fry grease, cinnamon donuts, and smoked turkey legs…

The sounds: hay crunching underfoot, the splutters and pops of steam-powered machinery, the lowing of cattle, the carnies hawking their wares and the booming music and screams of the midway…

I’m not surprised he was a little green by the end of our adventure. Little Guy had eagerly eaten a double cheeseburger and large fries for lunch before we came, and then he rode 3 rides in a row…

Fireball Ride

I’m not going on that thing – are you crazy?

Little Guy exited this ride like a bat outta …some place hot! We now know that Little Guy is a tiny bit afraid of heights…I’m not afraid of heights but I don’t like the sensation of falling and he thought he was going to fall out. He was barely over the “you must be this tall to ride” line by an inch. He’s decided he’ll never ride on that ride again, but we’ll see…

After that, we started scouting out snacks…for me. I was the only one who still felt great – guess this Old Girl still has an iron stomach.  It wasn’t long before Little Guy was ready for a corn dog. I couldn’t find any beaver tails, but I did find a cinnamon bun place! Yum!

On the way home we asked Little Guy if he was glad we’d gone, and his answer: “It was a good day, even if I almost threw up”!
